Mrs. Maxine D. Slanker, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, February 7, 2011, at the Lee House in Eldon, Mo. Maxine was born December 9, 1917, in Filmore, Mo., the daughter of Lloyd E. and Estella Mae Elfrits Todd. She was married on March 23, 1940, in Jefferson City, Mo., to George Daniel Slanker Sr., who preceded her in death on November 22, 2007. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1936, Maxine graduated from Filmore High School, Filmore, Mo., and the St. Joseph Business College. She was employed as a secretary in the Missouri State Senate for many years. Survivors include: one son, Todd Slanker and his wife Linda of Rocky Mount, Mo.; one daughter, Suzanne Garlich of Sedalia, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Mary Lois Gerdes and her husband John of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Ann Schneider and her husband Todd of St. Louis, Mo., Susan Medler and her husband Paul of St. Louis, Mo., Brad Garlich and his wife Sella of St. Louis, Mo., and Stacey Ismail and her husband Michael of Linn Creek, Mo.; one sister, Laurella VonKaenel of Savannah, Mo.; two nieces, Carol Bell and her husband Dwayne of Liberty, Mo. and Marti Schuman of Filmore, Mo.; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, George Daniel Slanker Jr.; and one sister, Helen Frye. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in the Freeman Chapel. Private graveside services will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery.
