Gilman Wommack

Gilman Leon Wommack, 80, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at his home. He was born May 20, 1930, in Fair Grove, Missouri, the son of the late Herschel and Pearl Winter Wommack. On February 4, 1955, he was united in marriage in Springfield, Missouri to Doris Looney, who survives at the home. Gilman graduated from Fair Grove High School and the University of Missouri in Columbia. He was employed with the Missouri Health Department and then later with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. He owned and operated Mid-MO Coins. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Men's Prayer Breakfast, past board member of the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation where he also refereed and umpired. He was a Cole County election judge, a basketball coach for First Baptist Kingsman and volunteered for the Samaritan Center and the annual Missouri State Championship Track meet. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed going to all their activities. For more than 30 years Mr. Gil taught Sunday School for the preschoolers at First Baptist Church. Along with his wife, he is also survived by his two sons: Anthony Leon Wommack and wife Susan of Waco, Texas, and Timothy Loren Wommack and wife Patty of St. Louis; one brother: Jerroll Wommack; one sister: Janice Graham; four grandchildren: Paul Anthony Wommack, Beth Ann Wommack, Allison Marie Wommack, and Timothy Andrew Wommack. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Betty Copeland. Friends will be received from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Interment will follow at the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
