Donald D. Hartness, 87, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on June 26, 1924, in Maryville, Mo., the son of the late Ernest Lewis and Jeanette Emma Mutz Hartness. Donald served with the United State Marine Corp. during World War II in the Pacific Theater. In 1952, he was married to Sarah Lenore Bruton, who died in 1958. On June 6, 1960, in Jefferson City, he married Henrietta Frances Oidtman, who resides at the home. Donald worked for the Department of Correction as the Recreation Director from 1957-1965. He also served as Assistant Superintendant of Treatment from 1965 till his retirement in 1989. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Other survivors include: four children, Kirk (Barbara) Hartness, Rogers, Ark., Carol (James) Shaw, Huntsville, Mo., Tim (Melissa) Hartness, Jefferson City, Carrie Roth, Plano, Texas; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mary Ebersole, Bakersfield, Calif. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Hartness. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2011, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with Kirk Hartness officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
