Elroy W. Bungart, 79, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at Eldon Nursing and Rehab. He was born August 29, 1932, in Miller County, a son of Edward B. and Angeline Sanning Bungart. He was a 1950 graduate of Eugene High School and received a degree in Electronics from Linn Technical College in 1966. Elroy enlisted in the Missouri National Guard in 1950 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1956, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a lineman for Missouri Utilities in Eldon, Missouri Power and Light and Ameren UE until his retirement in 1991 as a line clearance supervisor. Elroy was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; member and Past Commander of VFW Post 2442 and the American Legion both in Eldon; and member of the Marine Corps League and their Devil Dogs honor society. Elroy was united in marriage on August 31, 1956, in Happy, Texas, to Betty Sue Templeton, who survives at their home. Other survivors include two children: Michael P. Bungart and wife, Bobbie of Jefferson City, Diane M. Ferguson and husband, Wes of Jefferson City; one brother, Harold Bungart and wife, Lucille of Jefferson City; seven sisters, Adele Lueckenhoff and husband, Lawrence of Wardsville, Etta Schulte and husband, Bernard of Mary's Home, Eunice Kauffman and husband, John of Jefferson City, Carol Schaffer and husband, Vince of St. Anthony, Elizabeth "Susie" Schulte and husband, George of Jefferson City, Angie Wieberg of Jefferson City, Barbara Bax and husband, Benny of Mary's Home; and three grandchildren, Curtis, Galeyna and Leah Luebbering. Elroy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond Bungart and Clem Bungart; and one sister, Helen Bisges. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2011, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Fr. Basil Eruo officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
