Jessie "Irene" (Cook) Gibler, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011, after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of the Golden Living Center in Jefferson City. Irene was born March 5, 1928, in Pacific Junction, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harry and Florence (Prindle) Cook, who preceded her in death. She was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School in Jamestown, Missouri. Irene was married on March 7, 1953, at the Memorial Baptist Church in Jefferson City, to William Frederick Gibler, who survives her. Mrs. Gibler was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City. She was a brave survivor of the tuberculosis epidemic of the late 1940's. While receiving treatment, she received secretarial training. Irene had a long work history as a secretary in various businesses, which included the Missouri State Library, Missouri Department of Education and the Missouri Supreme Courts in Jefferson City, Missouri. She enjoyed traveling, church activities, music, and spending time with her family and friends. Irene is also survived by one daughter: Debra Gibler Shultz of Columbia, Mo.; one son: Dale F. Gibler (wife Myrana) of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren: Megan Shultz (missing since August 2006), Evan Gibler and Charis Gibler of Jefferson City, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter: Kaelin. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Robert Cook, Harry Dean Cook, Lloyd Elston Cook and Alice E. Findley. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., today, Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Dr. Doyle E. Sager officiating. Entombment will follow in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
