Ralph Sammie Sweaney

Mr. Ralph Sammie Sweaney, age 85 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, December 16, 2011, at the Oak Tree Villa Nursing Center. Ralph was born October 3, 1926, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Ralph and Semelia E. Garner Sweaney. He was married on March 9, 1947, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Jessie I. Maddox, who preceded him in death on September 4, 1999. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Ralph graduated from Jefferson City High School. He served in both the United States Army and the United States Navy. Ralph was employed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol from 1952 until his retirement as Chief Telecom Engineer in 1987. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003. Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Morris and her husband Dale of Jefferson City, Mo. and Sammie Kirchner and her husband Roger of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sons, Michael Sweaney and his wife Marla of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Rusty Sweaney and his wife Tami of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Gary Sweaney of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Cash and her husband Bob, Della Morris, Tabitha Morris, Jim Morris, Danelle Stockman and her husband Bill, Kevin Kirchner and his wife Cassie, Andy Kirchner, Brad Sweaney and his wife Jessica, and Brooke Sweaney; nine great- grandchildren, Steven Cash, Sydney Cash, Samantha Fleetwood, Abigail Fleetwood, Alexander Werdehausen, Isaac Gianoli, Paige Stockman, Taylor Stockman, and Brody Stockman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister, Betty Ann Sweaney. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2011, at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Ken Harland officiating.
