Myrtle Lee Blackwell, 86, of Jefferson City, formerly of Vienna, departed this life Sunday, December 4, 2011, in the Jefferson City Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing with Hospice Compassus assisting in her final days. She was well cared for by all; the family thanks you for all the kindnesses shown her while there. Mrs. Blackwell was born April 28, 1925, in Vienna, Mo., the daughter of Dewey Copeland and Lillie (Robertson) Copeland Berry, who preceded her in death, as well as her beloved husband, Clarence Orville Blackwell; her dearly loved daughter-in-law, Donna (Jackson) Blackwell; son-in-law, Joe Jackson; and precious infant great-grandson, Leif Blackwell. She was united in marriage on July 26, 1940, Vienna, to Clarence Orville Blackwell, and was happily married for 45 years. To this union, five children were born, two sons and three daughters, Lawrence Blackwell, Olean, Mo., Lonnie Black, Velma Blackwell, Betty (Blackwell) Jackson, and Cathy Onger Blackwell, all of Jefferson City. In addition to her children she is survived by one brother, Alton Copeland, St. Louis; one sister, Margie Williams, St. Louis; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 12 soon to be 13 great-great-grandchildren; all of which she loved and held closely in her heart, as well as many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Blackwell retired from Capital Region Medical Center after 45 years of service. She also worked part time at Community Action for several years after retiring from the hospital. She worked until she was 84 years old when diabetes followed by cancer caused her to retire completely. She was a devoted member of Southridge Baptist Church for many years and had many dear friends there. Mrs. Blackwell lived in Hyder Apartments for 13 years and was a dear and caring friend to all. She enjoyed reading her Bible daily, magazines, especially Mature Living and enjoyed crossword, search-and-find puzzles, quilting, and photography and was always ready to go out and do things especially on trips with the senior group from church. Mrs. Blackwell was busy until she became seriously ill. She was a dearly loved mom, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, and friend and will be very sadly missed by all. Funeral services for Mrs. Blackwell will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes, with Bro. Reuben Phelps officiating.
