Dorothy Trail

Dorothy McCaw Trail, 102, of Independence, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the Golden Living Center, Jefferson City, Mo. Dorothy was born on November 18, 1909, in McCracken County, Ky., daughter of the Rev. Charles Dudley McCaw and Olla Massie McCaw. She grew up on a farm near La Center, Ky., and trained as a teacher at Murray State College in Murray, Ky. After completing her studies to become a teacher, she and a friend decided to go into nursing. Dorothy graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing in Memphis, Tenn. with the class of 1933, as an RN. She was united in marriage to Edwin Martin Trail in 1935, who preceded her in death. This union produced three children, Elizabeth Ann, Charles Edwin, and Nancy Lynn. Children and spouses who survive are, Elizabeth Zveglich (Joseph) Scottsdale, Ariz., Charles Trail (Judy) Jefferson City, Mo., Nancy Sanders (Bill) Parkville, Mo. Surviving grandchildren and spouses, Toni Ann Summers (Brad) Phoenix, Ariz. Joseph Zveglich Jr. (Leah) Manila, Philippines, Steven Trail, Columbia, Mo., Amy Wilkinson (Mike) Independence, Mo., Jolie Walker (Aaron) Fort Wayne, Ind. Great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Andrew, Jocelyn and Madeline Summers, Philip Zveglich, Rachel Muleski, Peyton and Dylan, Mikayla Wilkinson, Kyle Trail, Hudson and Asher Walker and Amanda Fuller. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Roger Clark McCaw and Jesse Winston McCaw; and grandson, Charles Edwin Trail Jr. Dorothy led a full and productive life of service, healing and devotion. She served on the PTA at MT Washington School from 1947 to 1952, and was active at the MT Washington UMC for more than 50 years. As a nurse on the maternity ward at Trinity Lutheran Hospital she joyfully nurtured and cared for the newly born infants. She was an independent thinker, unselfish with empathy for those less fortunate. She was an avid reader and student of the Bible studying and contemplating its truths daily. Her life revolved around family, church and community giving freely of herself without seeking recognition, reward or praise. She will be sorely missed by her children, family, friends and those who knew her well. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 7, from 11-12 p.m. at the Newcomerís Floral Hills Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. following visitation. Burial will be held at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
