William B. "Dick" Hampton Jr., 79, Melvern, Kan., passed away, Saturday, August 20, 2011, at Newman Hospital, Emporia, Kan. He was born November 7, 1931, in Jameston, Mo., the son of W.B. and Euda Jane Nickles Hampton. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1949. He worked as a federal meat inspector in the Kansas area until his retirement in 1996. Dick raised beagles and was a member of numerous beagle clubs. Survivors include his wife Phyllis of the home; a daughter, Karen Hampton-Pine, North Canton, Ohio; a son, W. B. Hampton III, Lebo, Kan.; a step-daughter, Carrie Finney, Emporia; two stepsons, Chuck Emley, Emporia and Scott Emley, Gladstone, Mo.; one sister, Patsy Huth, Jefferson City; two brothers, David Hampton, California, Mo. and Nick Hampton, Jefferson City; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services was Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, Lebo, Kan. Pastor Richard Odum officiated. Interment was in the Maplewood Memorial Cemetery, Emporia. Memorial contributions are suggested to Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University, Manhatten.
