Arthur Frank Wankum, 77, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at St. Joseph Bluffs. He was born on November 3, 1933, in Meta, the son of the late George and Louise Porting Wankum. He was married on August 24, 1957, in Meta, to Mary Helen Hammann, who survives at the home. He was a graduate of Meta High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lincoln University. Mr. Wankum retired in 1998 as Executive Vice-President of Capital Savings and Loan Association where he had been employed for over 40 years. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church; Holy Name Society; Helias Knights of Columbus Council 1054; Roscoe Enloe American Legion Post 5; former member of Meadow Lake Country Club; Legislative Committee of the Missouri Savings and Loan League; Charter Member and Past-President of the Cosmopolitan Club; Past Board Member of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce; and Past Board member of the Charles E. Still Memorial Hospital. He greatly enjoyed farming and raising cattle on his land near Centertown. Other survivors include one daughter, Jean (Roger) Kurtz, Jefferson City; three sons, Gary (Ann) Wankum, Houston, Texas, Steve (Sandy) Wankum, Centertown, and Mike Wankum and his fiancÈe, Karen Herman, both of Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda) Schmitz, Melissa (Eric) Vernon, Christy Kurtz, Cassie Schmitz, Kelly Wankum, Lisa Wankum, Shelby Wankum, Spencer Wankum, Samantha Wankum, Bradley Wankum, Tony Pierce, and Jennifer Lux; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Jaegers, Jefferson City, and Alice Baumhoer, Jefferson City; and four brothers, Wilbert "Bud" (Roselyn) Wankum, Meta, Roman (LaVon) Wankum, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Elmer (Catherine) Wankum, Taos, and Ronald (Helen) Wankum, Jefferson City. He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Renee Wankum; and two sisters, Mildred Wankum and Bernadine Rehagen. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis W. Doyle officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum.
