Jon Walter Alewel, 72, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City. He was born July 30, 1938, in St. Louis, son of the late Walter L. and Olive (Sill) Alewel. He was a graduate of Lutheran Central High School in St. Louis, and went on to attend St. Louis University in St. Louis. On October 18, 1958, Jon was united in marriage in St. Louis to Carole Cross, who survives at their home. Jon was a business owner and was the owner of Convenient Food Mart for over 30 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Parkinson's Support Group at Capital Region Medical Center Healthplex in Jefferson City. He was a past member of Rotary Club. Jon enjoyed doing yard work and spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren. Jon is also survived by one son: Jon W. Alewel Jr. (wife Patti) of Jefferson City; one daughter: Jill Bass (husband Dennis) of Chesterfield; three grandchildren: Joshua Alewel, Kailee Alewel, and Lindsey Alewel, all of Jefferson City; and one sister: Roberta "Bobbie" Meyer (husband Jim) of O'Fallon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. Russell Bowder officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780.
