Charles C. Holmes, 88, of California, Mo., passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at California Care Center. He was born on September 14, 1922 in Cotton, Mo., the son of Harry and Cora (Patterson) Holmes, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on June 30, 1948 to Erma Fain, who preceded him in death on April 7, 1982. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Charles worked for CO-MO Electric in Tipton for 27 years. He loved living in the country where he gardened, enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends and company. But most of all he loved to dance. He went to dances all of the time. When the music started playing his foot went a tapping and his hands went clapping. He also loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by one son, Terry Holmes and wife Nila of Boonville, Mo.; one daughter, Cheryl Higgins and husband John of California, Mo.; one child, Richard McClain and wife Judy that Charles raised as a boy; four grandchildren, Kenneth Higgins and fiancÃˆ Evelyn Scott, Carrie Castro and husband Cruz, Amy Holmes, Travis Holmes; four great-grandchildren, Camelia Castro and baby brother on the way, Dakota, Dalton and Olivia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Darrell Holmes and Leonard Shaw. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, Mo. Burial with military honors will be in New Zion Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his wife. Officiating will be Jack Bowlin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Preffered Hospice, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S.
