Robert Vostal (Veteran)

Robert Tracy Vostal, age 75 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., Naples, Fla. and Warren, R.I., passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, at his home. Mr. Vostal was born Oct. 9, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Joseph and Edna Tracy Vostal. On May 21, 1960, he was married to Barbara Ann Hampson of Glen Ridge, N.J., who preceded him in death in 1999. On May 26, 2002, he was married in Jefferson City, Mo., to Nancy Pippin Duggins, who survives at the home. Mr. Vostal grew up in Tenafly and Englewood, N.J. He attended Englewood Public Schools and graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in 1953, where he lettered in basketball and soccer. During his childhood, he attended St. Paul Episcopal Church serving as a choir and altar boy. In 1957, he received a bachelor of arts from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. where he was a member of the varsity soccer team, Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity and the Sphinx Senior Society. He was a proud member of the United States Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964. As a bond specialist for more than 28 years, Mr. Vostal worked for several east coast companies including Rogers & Lamb, The First Boston Corporation, E.F. Hutton & Company, Inc., W.H. Morton & Company, B.J. Van Ingen & Company, Inc. and E.A. Moos. Mr. Vostal was a member of the Municipal Bond Club of New York and served on the Revenue Bond Committee of Security Industry Associates (SIA). In his leisure time, he was a member of the Jefferson City Country Club, First United Methodist Church, JC Men's Senior Golf Association and the Friday Noon Men's Round Table Group. He also served on the Board of Governors for Capital Region Medical Center, the capital campaign committee for the Goldschmidt Cancer Center, and the campaign steering committee for the Sam B. Cook HealthPlex, all in Jefferson City, Mo. Mr. Vostal's passion for making a difference in people's lives led him and Nancy to name the Goldschmidt Healing Center Garden to provide a place of serenity for patients, their families and staff. During his time in Missouri, he became an active supporter of the University of Missouri Alumni Association, Tiger Scholarship Fund, Jefferson Club, Cole County Historical Society, Friends of Arrow Rock and AARP. In Florida, Mr. Vostal was a past president and the current vice president of the Vanderbilt Shores Condominiums Association, served on the Dartmouth Mini Reunion Committee, and was a member of the Audubon Country Club and First United Methodist Church. Other civic organizations to which he volunteered his time and expertise included the Essex Fells Country Club where he served as the president of the board of trustees, the Juvenile Conference Committee and the Borough Council, all in the state of New Jersey. In addition to his wife, survivors include: two children, Tracy (Mark) Pearson of Warren, R.I. and Kenneth (Sarah) Vostal of Summit, N.J.; four step-children, Ralph (Susy) H. Duggins III of Fort Worth, Texas, Dru Duggins Gilbert, Chicago, Ill., Martha Duggins Leonard, Dallas, Texas, and Elizabeth (Kenneth) Duggins Green, Leawood, Kan.; 16 grandchildren, Kelly, Hannah and Nicholas Pearson of Warren, N.J., Joseph and Erin Vostal of Summit, N.J., Kurt and Lauren Vostal of Manasquan, N.J., Phillip and Thomas Duggins of Fort Worth, Texas, Olivia and Samuel Leonard of Dallas, Texas, Nancy Pippin and Miles Green of Leawood, Kan., Ashley (John) Hayes of Spartansburg, S.C., and Elizabeth and Emily Gilbert of Chicago, Ill.; and one great-grandson, Rollins Hayes of Spartansburg, S.C. He is also survived by one cousin, Marian Diehl, of Post Crane, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Robert H. Vostal. Mr. Vostal sincerely loved people and maintained close connections with friends across the country which he met in high school, college and throughout his life. He will indeed be missed by many. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Daniel Hilty and the Reverend Dr. E. Gene Rooney officiating. A visitation will be held immediately following the funeral service in the parlor of the First United Methodist Church. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Ridge Park Cemetery at Marshall, Mo.
