John James Driscoll

John James Driscoll, 82, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born August 11, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Michael James and Ellen Frances (Sutton) Driscoll. He was a 1946 graduate of St. Mary the Mount High School in Mount Washington, Pa. He went on to graduate from St. Francis Seminary College in Loretto, Pa. On October 21, 1967, John was united in marriage in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Mary Elizabeth Sakach, who survives at their home. John worked as an Administrator for SSM Health System. He was also Commandant for the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. John was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. He was a 4th Degree Knight, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Helias Council, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American College of Hospital and Nursing Home Administrators, and the St. Mary's Auxiliary. He was a volunteer for Hospice and St. Mary's Senior Connection. John enjoyed traveling, reading, faith and most of all he cherished time with his family and friends. Along with his wife, John is also survived by seven children: Sean Michael Driscoll (wife Mindy) of Jefferson City, Maura Elise Hodges (husband Chris) of Columbia, Brian James Driscoll of Jefferson City, Loren Andrew Driscoll (wife Megan) of Charlottesville, Va., Terence Joseph Driscoll (wife Sandra) of Maryville, Ill., Kevin Robert Driscoll (wife Jigi) of Washington, D.C., and Chad Matthew Driscoll (wife Amy) of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister: Eileen Richardson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Elizabeth Driscoll of Pittsburg, Pa. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Carmelite Monastery Chapel, on Monday, April 11, 2011, with Fr. Clarence Wiederholt and Fr. J. David Maher officiating. Entombment was held in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. A Memorial Mass in memory of John Driscoll will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the Carmelite Chapel at 9:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Carmelite Monastery, the Samaritan Center or Saint Joseph Cathedral School Guardian Angel Fund, in memory of John Driscoll.
