Lawrence E. Withers

Lawrence E. "Larry" Withers Jr., 65, of Holts Summit passed away Friday, April 1, 2011, at St. Mary's Heath Center in Jefferson City. He was born Nov. 6, 1945, in St. Louis, the son of Lawrence E. and Pauline (Phillips) Withers. He married Ruth Ann Benson at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Linn on April 19, 1969. She survives at the home. Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gare Withers and wife, Sandy, of New Bloomfield and Lawrence E. Withers III of Harrisburg, Pa.; two daughters, Vicki Schollmeyer and husband, Cary, of Holts Summit and Shelly Quick and husband, Brian, of Holts Summit; one brother Ralph Withers of Kansas City; five sisters, Bea Jones, Evelyn Perkins, Iva Bower, Fern Heyman and Sue Stowe, all of Linn; and eight grandchildren, Ashtin, Alex and Gannon Withers, Jason Withers, Cody and Lane Schollmeyer, and Taylor and Tanner Quick. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Hazel Warren; and two brothers, Leroy and Richard Withers. Larry served in the Air Force during Vietnam. He worked as a lineman for Central Electric Power Coop in Jefferson City, retiring in 2005. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and golf. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was especially involved in the lives of his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, April 5, at Debo Funeral Home in Holts Summit with John Stowe officiating. Interment will follow at Summit Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011, at the funeral home.
