Dolores Wakefield Byrne

Dolores "Dolly" Wakefield Byrne, 98, of Versailles, died Thursday, September 23, 2010, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Versailles. She was born December 6, 1911 in Milton, West Virginia, one of 11 children born to Fred Bussey Lambert and Nancy Peyton Lambert. She was a graduate of Barboursville High School in Barboursville, West Virginia, and attended Morris Harvey College. On November 12, 1933, the last day of the Chicago World Fair, Dolores was united in marriage in Waukegan, Illinois, to Kenneth Nathan Byrne, who preceded her in death on February 20, 2004. Dolores had lived in Lexington, Virginia; Marion, South Carolina; Welch, West Virginia; Point Pleasant, West Virginia; Goldsboro, Warsaw; and Cape Cartartet, North Carolina; and since 1999 has resided with her daughters in Maryland and Missouri. She was a member of St. Peters by the Sea Episcopal Church in Swansboro, North Carolina, the DAR, various medical auxiliaries and garden clubs. Dolores is survived by two daughters: Mary Edith Dolores Feind and husband Bill of Eugene, Missouri, and Judith Wakefield Gnade and husband Bill of Fallston, Maryland; six grandchildren: Kenneth William Feind and wife Sandra, Anne Catherine Feind, David Joseph Feind, Nancy Dolores Feind Staats and husband Steven, William Jonathan Gnade, Thomas Matthew Gnade and wife Erica; four great- grandchildren: Alexa Staats, Andrew Staats, Tyler Gnade, Nathan Gnade; one brother, Henry Lambert and wife Betty of Huntington, West Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Betty Lambert, wife of Dolores' brother, Elwood. She was also preceded in death by one son, Kenneth James Byrne in 1989, and a great-grandson, Joshua Gnade. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Private family interment will be in the White Chapel Cemetery in Barboursville, West Virginia at a later date.
