Oleph V. Gier, age 82, of Eldon, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010, in Columbia. He was born August 2, 1928, in Bagnell, the son of Elzie Everett and Jennie June (Woolley) Gier. He was married on October 2, 1949, in Lake Ozark, to Luvenia Champlain, who survives of the home. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of Korea. He owned and operated Gier's Standard Service for 35 years before retiring in 1990 to enjoy golf and his grandchildren. He was an active member of the First Christian Church of Eldon, a member of the VFW Post #2442, and was a school board member for several terms. Other survivors include: three sons and their families, Tony Gier of Lake Ozark, Bruce Gier of Eldon, and Mark Gier of Carthage; six grandchildren; and one sister, Nadine Opie of Eldon. Visitation will be held today, Saturday, October 30, from 5-7 p.m. at the Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at the First Christian Church, Eldon, with Rev. Shirley Williams officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Eldon City Cemetery, Eldon. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church Building Fund.
