Rita Wankum

Rita Ann Wankum, 65, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at her residence. She was born on December 22, 1944, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late Francis H. and Edith M. Poetker Kauffman. She was a 1962 graduate of Helias High School. She was united in marriage on February 12, 1966, in St. Martins, to Richard William Wankum, who resides at the home. Rita was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Quilters, St. Martins Tuesday Quilters, helped plan the St. Martin picnics, Mid-Missouri Old Car Club, and was a participant with Relay for Life. Other survivors include: three children, Daniel Wankum, Jefferson City, Michelle (Nathan) Holland, Jefferson City, and Janet Wankum, Springfield, Ill.; and three siblings, Robert (Joan) Kauffman, Jefferson City, Jerome (Rita) Kauffman, Lohman, and Raymond (Janet) Kauffman, Jefferson City. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Kauffman. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, October 30, 2010, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4:30-8 p.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Relay for Life or to a charity of the donor's choice.
