Sr. Michael Lischwe

Sr. Michael Marie Lischwe, 89, Bridgeton, Mo., died Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Anna House, The Sarah Community, Bridgeton, Mo. She had been a Franciscan Sister of Mary for almost 70 years. Born Rose Frances Zita Lischwe December 7, 1920, on a farm near Brinktown, she was fifth of nine children born to Joseph B. and Katherine (nee Wiegers) Lischwe. On August 18, 1941, she entered the Sisters of St. Mary (who in 1987 reunited with the Sisters of St. Francis of Maryville, Mo., as the Franciscan Sisters of Mary). She professed final vows February 11, 1947. She served as an obstetrical and surgical nurse in SSM hospitals in Missouri and Wisconsin. She worked at SSM St. Mary's in Jefferson City from 1971 to 1979. She was nursing supervisor and did home nursing in Maries County for three years, and she served as nursing supervisor at Villa Marie Senior Center, Jefferson City, from 1985 to 1998. She moved to St. Louis in 2003. She is survived by two sisters, Anita M. Lischwe, SSND, of Bridgeton, Mo., and Sr. Mary Boniface Lischwe, a medical mission sister, of Orange, Calif.; two brothers, Anthony Lischwe of Galesburg, Ill., and Rev. Bruno Lischwe of Liguori, Mo., as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, October 28, at the Anna House chapel, 12349 DePaul Dr., Bridgeton, MO 63044, followed by a Mass of Farewell at 4 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, the following morning.
