Dorothy J. Meckfessel, age 84, of Fulton, formerly of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at her home. She was born July 16, 1926 in Flat River, the daughter of Howard and Katie Bowles Counts, both of whom preceded her in death. Dorothy graduated from Normandy High School. She was united in marriage November 30, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo., to Donald Meckfessel, who survives. She was an employee of the Missouri Dept. of Transportation in Jefferson City, until her retirement in 1988. After retirement, she worked for National Park Services, in places such as the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the Grand Tetons in Wyoming, and Death Valley in California, and after her travels she worked for the Dept. of Conservation. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She will be sadly missed. Survivors include: two sons, Clark Meckfessel of Russellville and Dwight Meckfessel of Arizona; one daughter, Donna Clark of Fulton; four grandchildren, Jennifer Clark, of Jefferson City, Jeannie Lairmore with her husband Stacy of Fulton, Angie Harris with her husband Andy of Arizona, and David Meckfessel of Colorado; 10 great- grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one daughter in-law, Karen Meyer of Jefferson City. Along with her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by one brother, Everett Counts, and one sister, Katherine Kettlekamp. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Weber Funeral Home in Russellville, with the funeral service to follow the visitation at 6:00 p.m. The Rev. Mike Haldeman will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimere's Association, Mid-Missouri Chapter, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65201; or Missouri River Hospice, 1410 Heriford Rd., Columbia, MO 65202.
