Henry Herschel Ford, age 94 years, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center. Henry was born April 15, 1916, in Clinton, Ind., the son of Birt and Phoeba Miller Ford. He was married July 21, 1945, in Clinton, to Virginia Crane. Henry was a 1938 graduate of Indiana State Teacher's College in Terre Haute, Ind., and later earned his Master's degree from there. He served four years in the Army in the 8th Infantry Division with 19 months in the European Theater in World War II. Henry taught instrumental music and business education for 27 years, mostly in South Bend, Ind. Following his retirement, Henry and Virginia lived in Parke County, Ind., before moving to Jefferson City. Both Henry and Virigina volunteered at Capital Region Medical Center for 17 years. Henry leaves a son, John Crane Ford of Jefferson City, and a daughter, Roberta Ellen Ford Vermaaten of Bowling Green, Ohio. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Priscilla Ford; a son-in-law, Paul Vermaaten; and two grandchildren, Sally and Seth Vermaaten. A private family memorial service will be held in Clinton, Ind. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or a charity of the donor's choice.
