Velda Mae Pardoe, 87, of California, Mo., (formerly of the Latham area), passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, Mo. She was born June 7, 1923, in Clarksburg, Mo., the daughter of William and Nora Jane Stinson, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on March 9, 1939, in California, Mo. to Johnny Pardoe who preceded her in death on July 2, 1981. She was a homemaker for many years before working at Weber Shoe Company in Tipton, Mo. Later she was employed at Cargill in California, Mo., where she retired after 26 years in 1989, and received various awards. She was a lifetime member of Latham Christian Church where she held various offices in the church and in C.W.F. She later transferred her membership to the California United Church of Christ where she was a past member of the Evangelines and Women's Guild. She was a member of the California Area Senior Citizens and served on the board and was Chairperson of Hospitality. She was a member and contact person for the Moniteau County OATS. She received the OATS "Citizen of the Year" award. She graduated as valedictorian of her eighth grade class in Jamestown, Mo. She is survived by one son, Dean Pardoe of Latham, Mo.; three daughters, Barbara Hofstetter and husband Howard of St. Charles, Mo., Janie Howard and husband Kenneth of California, Mo., and Carol Wolf and husband Kenneth of St. Peters, Mo.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one half-brother, William (Bill) Birdsong of Arkansas and one half-sister, Frieda McNeal of Kansas City, Mo. She was preceded in death by two half-sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the California United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Latham Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Collette Jones and Rev. Jeffery Hammonds. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the UCC Memorial Fund or American Cancer Society, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018.
