Emil Bax

Emil George "Sweet Pea" Bax, 72, of Freeburg, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010, in Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City. Emil had been in failing health for some time. He was born April 27, 1938, at Freeburg, a son of Gerhard Frank and Mathilda Bernadine (Raab) Bax, Emil was united in marriage on March 3, 1962, at Freeburg, to the former Miss Maxine Elizabeth Barton, and to this union, seven children were born. Emil was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg; the Paul A. Hasenbeck American Legion Post No. 317, Freeburg; and was a charter member of the Freeburg Lions Club. Emil was a specialist in the Missouri National Guard for six years and during his working years, he had been employed by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Westinghouse, Knollmeyer Lumber and Concrete and Quaker Window Products Company in the door room prior to failing health. Emil enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working and in his later years became an avid bird watcher and loved to watch The Young and The Restless, Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown and The People's Court. Those left to mourn the passing of Emil include: his wife, Maxine, of the home in Freeburg; five sons, Mark Bax, Freeburg, Bruce Bax, Hartsburg, Terry Bax, North Kansas City, Jamie Bax and wife, Jennifer, Jefferson City and Eric Bax, currently working in Afghanistan; one daughter, Nicki Bax, Freeburg; two grandsons, Shane and Carter; eight granddaughters, Brianna, Brooklyn, Carissa, Heather, Jessica, Rosie, Shaylyn and Trisha; two great-grandchildren, William, Kamila, and another anticipated in January of 2010; three brothers, Elmer Bax, Westphalia, Fred Bax, Jefferson City and Gerhard Bax, Freeburg; two sisters, Rita Luebbering, Westphalia and Patsy Nelson, Eugene and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann; his parents; two brothers, Victor and Robert Bax; and one sister, Dorothy Luebbering. Funeral services under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes will be conducted for Mr. Bax at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, November 20, 2010, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with Rev. Phil Niekamp and Rev. Joe Welschemeyer concelebrating. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2010, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by an American Legion Memorial Service and 10 - 11 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010, all in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. Masses or memorials per the wishes of the family are suggested with envelopes available at the Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
