Dorothy McKenzie

Dorothy Ellen McKenzie, age 94, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born May 21, 1916, at Smithton, a daughter of Milton Sidney and Elsie Floy Miller McKenzie. A 1935 graduate of Smith Cotton High School. She started her career as a secretary for the Production Credit Association. She was promoted to Assistant Secretary of the main office and moved to Jefferson City in 1937. She later was employed by the Missouri Farm Bureau as secretary in the executive office. She retired in 1984 after a 48 year career. She was active as a member of First Christian Church in Jefferson City where she served as a board member, board secretary, and treasurer of the Lydia Circle. In 1988 she was selected lifetime deacon of the church. She was also an active member of the over 55 group. After retirement she did volunteer work at her church and continued until her death. She also volunteered at the Red Cross, blood drives, and delivered Meals On Wheels. She is survived by two sisters, Lila Miller of Sedalia and Helen Wells of LaMonte; nine nieces and nephews and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Mittlehauser; one brother, Forrest (Bud) McKenzie; and also a long time friend, Margaret Schowengerdt. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home at 701 South Osage Ave. in Sedalia, with Rev. Jim Sutherlin officiating. Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:00 noon, on Sunday. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
