J.R. "Jake" Ferguson, age 61, of Tebbetts, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010, at his home. He was born January 20, 1949, in Tebbetts, a son of the late George Francis Ferguson and Dorothy Ferguson French of Fulton. On March 7, 1970, he married Sandy Horton Ferguson. J.R. served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a machinist for the Katy and Union Pacific Railroad and retired after 30 years of service. He was very dedicated to his work and a gifted mechanic. He was a member of the Dixie Christian Church. He enjoyed quail and squirrel hunting, looking for mushrooms, fishing, and dancing. In addition to his mother, survivors include one son, Will Ferguson of Tebbetts; two daughters, Cindy Harris and her husband Mark of Tuscumbia, and Kate Henderson of Fulton; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Allison, Aidan Harris, Elise and Keely Eaker, Drystin Henderson; one sister, Georgia Haymart and her husband Darrel of Fulton; two nieces, Marnie Clark and Toni Klick of Fulton; two great-nieces and one great-nephew. J.R.'s wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Dave Coleman officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the Maupin Funeral Home.
