Lt. Col. Danny Davidson (Veteran)

Lt. Col. Danny Everett Davidson (Ret.) 72, of Wardsville, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born on August 29, 1937, in Opolis, Kan., the son of the late Myrl Everett and Noreen Lucille McClure Davidson. Danny was a graduate of the University of Missouri Rolla with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was united in marriage on May 19, 1962, in Wardsville, to Carol Ann Mehmert who resides at the home. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force and a Major in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Command and General Staff College and the National Defense University. Danny was a civil engineer for 38 years with Missouri Dept. Of Transportation. He was a substitute teacher for Blair Oaks School District for 10 years. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Danny was a past president and current member of the Missouri River Regional Library Foundation Board and a member of the Missouri River Regional Library Board, Planning and Zoning Commission and Public Works Committee for the Village of Wardsville, recently elected to the Board of Trustees and was serving as Treasurer for the Village of Wardsville, Lions Club of Wardsville, and the American Legion Post 5. Danny enjoyed sharing cattle operations with his brother-in-law, David Mehmert. He also enjoyed working with youth of St. Stanislaus. He was Uncle Danny to many nieces and nephews. Dan and Carol loved to travel not only in the United States, but in many foreign countries throughout the world. They were scheduled to be in Russia this week. Danny's love of travel was enhanced by his sharp mind on history as well as being a civil war buff. Danny appreciated nature and the seasons and found every excuse he could to be working on the farm. Danny was known for his optimistic attitude, seeing the positive in every person and every situation in life. Other survivors include one sister, Jacquetta Davidson Hyde, of Monett, Mo.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Price, Washington, Mo.; Larry (Janet) Mehmert, Fulton, Mo.; Jeanie (Bill) Kincaid, Richland, Mo.; David (Kay) Mehmert, Centertown, Mo.; Ron (Dee Dee) Mehmert, Jefferson City; Tom (Debbie) Mehmert, Holts Summit, Mo.; Bob (Rose) Mehmert, Jefferson City; and Bill (Connie Cunningham) Mehmert, Centertown, Mo.; nieces and nephews, Kimberly (Jim) Hyde Goldin, Oronogo, Mo.; Kassie Hyde, Monett, Mo.; Jean Anne (Brian) Gentges, Washington, Mo.; Matt (Shelley Hilton) Mehmert, Columbia, Mo.; Joe (Mary Beth) Kincaid, Richland, Mo.; Josh (Brandi) Kincaid, Richland, Mo.; and Donnie (Ami) Mehmert, Jennifer (Joe) Martin, Bryan Mehmert, Eric Mehmert, Chris (Larissa) Mehmert, and Adam (Jennifer) Mehmert, all of Jefferson City; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville, Mo., with the Rev. Gregory C. Meystrik officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Brendan Doyle. Additional visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
