Elston J. Hamburg, age 61, of Linn, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospice Center in Columbia, after a courageous 20 year battle with various cancers. Elston was born November 5, 1948, in Jefferson City, a son to the late Theodore H. Hamburg and Alma (Franken) Hamburg, who survives of Linn. Elston was a 1966 graduate of Linn High School and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Before becoming disabled, Elston had worked for Three Rivers Electric, Frank Twehous Excavating and Hometown Lumber. Elston was a member of St George Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, farming and horseback riding. In addition to his mother, Elston is survived by one son, Jason and his wife Mandy Hamburg of Jefferson City; two brothers, Eugene Hamburg of Linn and Elmo Hamburg of Ashland; two sisters, Evelyn and her husband Robert Niekamp of Linn and Edna Kliethermes of Linn; three aunts, Martha Otto, Carella Samson and Dorothy Franken, all of Linn; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Elston was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, David Kliethermes. Visitation will be held from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the St George Catholic Church in Linn. Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. I.C. Medina as the celebrant. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of Masses, St. George Church, or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Morton Chapel, Linn, Mo.
