August "Gus" Franklin Marie, 88, of Fulton formerly of Eldon, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010, in Columbia. He was born June 18, 1921, the son of Frank Emil Maire and Nora Dell (Chapman) Marie. Gus was married to his first wife Patricia (Pope) Marie. He then married Anna Mae (Koffkey) Maire on April 27, 1961, who preceded him in death on June 14, 2008. Gus started out working as an automotive mechanic and automotive body worker in St. Louis. He retired in 1984 from Shelter Insurance as a Senior Claims Adjustor. He served in the United States Army during World War II in England, France, and Germany as a cook. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eldon. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Terry and Starr Maire of Santa Cruz, California; one daughter: Mary Jane O'Donnell of Fulton; grandchildren: Shelly Basnett-Clark, Shawn Basnett, Kimberly Carol (Sue) Basnett, Richard Maire, Lori and Shawn Schulte, Joshua, Joseph, and Jordan Davis; five great-grandchildren; sister: Bess Schuch of Hermann, and Edie Jackson of Liberty. He is also survived by: John "JR" and Gina Basnett of Columbia, and Carol Ann and Virgil Schulte of Eldon. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City. Full military honors will be provided at the graveside. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggest to the Alzheimer's Association.
