Fred Hentges

Fred Hentges, age 70, of Sibley, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010. Fred was born September 28, 1939, in Jefferson City, and graduated from Jefferson City Helias High School. He was a firefighter for the Independence Fire Dept. for nearly 30 years and retired in 1994. He was a member of the Church of the Santa Fe Parish. He enjoyed fishing and wood working in his spare time. He is survived by a son, Michael Hentges and wife Debbi, Kansas City, grandchildren, Donald Sherman, Independence, Mindilyn King and husband Sean, St. Joseph, Nikkalous Padgett and Mikayla Hentges, both of Kansas City; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Alex King; brother, Jim Hentges and wife Gladys, Centertown; sister, Pat Bonine and husband Wayne, Jefferson City; brother, David Hentges and wife Corlis, California; sister Marilyn Schmidt and husband Roger, Jefferson City; brother, Gene Hentges and wife Karen, St. Martins. Fred was preceded in death by his wife Frances and daughter Brenda Sherman. A brief memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 6 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, before going in procession to The Church of The Santa Fe Catholic Church in Buckner for the Mass of Christian Burial, which will begin at 2:30 p.m. Cremation. The Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a visitation from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
