Eugene "Gene" Bolin, 81, of California, Mo., passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, Mo. He was born on April 27, 1929, in California, Mo., the son of Francis and Elsie (Tindel) Bolin, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on May 23, 1953, in St. Martins, Mo. to Helen Welch, who survives of the home. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator, was a 50-year member of the Operators Union #513 in St. Louis, and worked for Massman Construction for 22 years. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in California. He enjoyed spending time with his wife of 57 years, his children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was a Mizzou basketball fan and a youth baseball coach for many years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed quail hunting, spending time in Arizona for the winters, and his cattle and farming. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Korea, where he was awarded two Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star. He is survived by two sons, Darrell (Sheila) Bolin, of Tipton, Mo., and Alan (Kim) Bolin of California, Mo.; one granddaughter, Holliann Bolin; three grandsons, Wyatt Bolin, Tristan Bolin, and Austin Bolin. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Mo. Burial with full military honors will be in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, Mo., with a Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S.
