Allen Brohn (Veteran)

Allen Brohn, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010, at his home in Overland Park. Allen was born on April 25, 1920, in St. Joseph, the son of the late Edward and Beatrice Brohn. He was educated in the St. Joseph Public Schools and at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he earned his Bachelors degree in 1942, and his Masters degree in 1947. He was united in marriage to his wife Emily Jean Hern on October 3, 1948, in Emily's home town of Rocheport. They later made their home in Jefferson City. Emily preceded him in death on June 8, 2006. During World War II, Allen served in the United States Army in the Panama Canal from 1942 - 1945. He was employed with the Missouri Department of Conservation from 1947 until his retirement in 1988. He began his career as a Wildlife Biologist and carried out research that led to improvements in deer management. He also organized and directed the Wild Turkey Restoration Program and was the departments Wildlife Coordinator with the U.S. Forest Service. Later, he served as Federal Aid Coordinator, Chief of the Wildlife Division, and from 1969 until his retirement, Allen served as Assistant Director of the Missouri Department of Conservation. He also chaired the departments regulations committee and the Missouri Natural Areas Committee. After his retirement, Allen served on the Board of Directors of the L.A.D. Foundation in St. Louis and on the Board of Trustees of the Nature Conservancy of Missouri. He was also a volunteer at Memorial Community Hospital and was a member of the Missouri Historical Society, the First United Methodist Church, and Meadow Lake Acres Country Club. Allen is survived by his son: David Brohn and his wife Kathy of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; his granddaughter: Kayla Brohn of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; and his sister: Doris Pipkin of Seattle, Washington. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 26, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Dumas officiating. Interment will be held at the Rocheport Cemetery in Rocheport.
