Ralph Edward Higgins, 85, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010, at his home. He was born March 14, 1925, in Jefferson City, a son of Thomas Frederick and Mary Delsi (Hisken) Higgins. He was a graduate of Jefferson City High School. On September 3, 1950, he was united in marriage at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hartsburg, Missouri, to Rosalee Thomas, who survives at their home. Ralph was an electrician for E.J. Petry Electric and Linsenbardt Electric Motors, for a total of 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Front Campaign in World War II from 1943 - 1946. Ralph was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hartsburg, Missouri, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a son: Ralph Douglas Higgins (wife Charlotte Sims Higgins) of Jefferson City; two daughters: Pamela Vaughn (husband Bill) of Hartsburg, and Denise Stiers (husband Dan) of Hartsburg; two sisters: Patsy Davidson of Hartsburg, and JoAnn Higgins of Jefferson City; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Higgins and Charles Higgins; and one sister: Helen Beinlich. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Hare officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to SSM Hospice or the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hartsburg.
