Mary Jean McKern, 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010. She was born February 3, 1923, in Fulton, the daughter of Adolphus "A.D." and Bertha (Schiller) Rutherford, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married to Clyde McKern Jr., in Cedar City, on September 28, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1965. In her younger years, she proudly owned Mary's Sandwich Shop and was one of the proprietors of The Spot CafË, both in Fulton. She often reflected with fondness of those days. Mary was one of the original residents of DeVille Southwest Apartments in Jefferson City, living there for 42 years. She also enjoyed visiting most of the Missouri State Parks and spending winters in Florida. She was a member of the Veterans Gold Star Auxiliary, and other veteran organizations. Mary loved and supported our military and veterans throughout her life. She will be remembered as a loving, sweet natured woman by her family: one son, Rex McKern and wife Deborah of Troy; one daughter, Evelyn and Kenneth Taylor of Holts Summit; three grandchildren, Dawn and Michael Tedrow of Indiana, Devin and Tammy Taylor of New Bloomfield, and Darin Taylor of Manhattan Kan.; and one step-grandson, Donald Ray Taylor of Eldon. She also had five great-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren and eight step-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Burnett; one brother, Eugene Rutherford; and a special friend, Ernest R. "Bill" Klick. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.
