George Lueckenhoff (Veteran)

George Francis Lueckenhoff, 86, of Kansas City, entered eternal rest Friday, March 12, 2010. George was born in Jefferson City, in August, 1923. He was the youngest of six children of George Joseph (G. J.) and Matilda Schulte Lueckenhoff and is survived by one brother: Charles Lueckenhoff of Warner Robbins, Georgia. George grew up on Cherry Street in Jefferson City and attended St. Peter's High School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve (Green) Lueckenhoff, with whom he enjoyed 53 years of marriage before her death in 2005. George was the cherished father of six: Claire Phillips (Jack) of Houston, Texas, Anne Doerr (Lawrence) of St. Louis, Edward Lueckenhoff (Sandra) of Austin, Texas, William Lueckenhoff (Trina) of Morgantown, West Virginia, G. Joseph Lueckenhoff of Readington Township, New Jersey, and Thomas Lueckenhoff of Kansas City. He was the loving grandfather to 11 including: Kyle and Marie Phillips, Emily and Bridget Doerr, George Matthew, Gregory, Joseph Benjamin (deceased), Andrew, Mark, Patrick and George Maxwell Lueckenhoff; and great-grandfather to Alicia Collins-Lueckenhoff. George first moved to Kansas City in 1941 to attend Rockhurst College, where he played varsity football. College was interrupted by World War II during which George served his country in the European Theater, as part of Patton's Third Army and the 13th Armored Division. George returned to Rockhurst following the war, graduating in 1948 and subsequently from Georgetown University Law School in 1950. George spent over 27 years as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He began his FBI career with a brief stint in Georgia, followed by ten years in New York and the remainder of his FBI career in the Kansas City Office. He served many roles in the Kansas City office including legal advisor, police training coordinator and organized crime squad supervisor. After retiring from the FBI in 1977, George headed Kansas City's Liquor & Amusement Control Department from 1977 through 1989. He also served as a security consultant for the National Basketball Association and as an administrative law judge for the U. S. Department of Energy. George was an active and faithful member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Kansas City for nearly 50 years. He coached youth football and baseball in the Raytown area and held board positions at O'Hara High School, Rockhurst University, University of St. Mary and St. Bernadette's. George was also an avid hunter and loyal fan of both the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. George was a friend to many and stranger to none. His positive approach to life and sense of humor will be missed. His life will be celebrated by family and friends with a visitation on Friday, March 19, 6-8 p.m. (Rosary at 8 p.m.) at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 East 47th Street, Kansas City, MO 64133. www.mcgilleysheil.com.
