Mr. Eugene H. "Gene" Schwab, age 90 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the University of Missouri Health Sciences Center, Columbia, Mo. Gene was born January 9, 1920, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of John and Emma Juenger Schwab. He was married in 1945, to Delores Ann Kerkering who preceded him in death in 1978. In 1982, he married Jane Wooldridge. Gene was a graduate of Beaumont High School in St. Louis and attended Washington University. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He was an employee of Blue Cross in St. Louis from 1947 until his retirement in 1982. He was a Member and Past President of Kiwanis International and was Lt. Governor of Division 11 of Kiwanis from 1992 until 1993. In Jefferson City, he was Elder and Past President of the Central United Church of Christ and was a member of the choir. He was a member of the Jefferson City Cantorum and was past Vice-President of the Jefferson City Music Society. He was a member of several commissions for the City of Jefferson and the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce. Gene served nine years as Arts Director of the Capital City Council on the Arts and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Community Concert Assn. Survivors include: his wife, Jane Schwab; one son, Dean Henry Schwab of St. Charles, Mo.; one daughter, Debbie Alexander of Dixon, Mo.; three step-daughters, Ann Wooldridge Lauer of Helena, Montana, Sue Wooldridge of Columbia, Mo., and Barbara Wooldridge Schaffer of Jefferson City, Mo.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Delores; and one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at the Evangelical Section of Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Central United Church of Christ from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Monday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Central United Church of Christ.
