Mrs. Paula J. Adkison, age 56 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Paula was born March 10, 1953, in Lebanon, Mo., the daughter of Richard J. and Betty R. Winfrey Shockley. She was married on June 14, 1974 in Richland, Mo., to George A. Adkison. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Paula was a 1971 graduate of Richland High School, Richland, Mo. She also graduated from the Burge School of Nursing. Paula was employed as a Public Health Consultant Nurse and Trauma Manager with the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services in the Missouri Dept. of Health and Senior Services. Formerly, she dedicated 25 years at Capital Region as an Emergency Room Manager and four years with Corrections Medical Service. She was a member of the Missouri Nurses Assn. Paula had a passion for others and loved staying connected to her friends and family all around the country. She also enjoyed listening to the Oak Ridge Boys and collecting Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and Wizard of Oz figurines. Survivors include: her husband, George Adkison; her father, Richard Shockley of Richland, Mo.; two sisters, Donna Nye and her husband Ronnie of Floresville, Texas, and Susie Doughty and her husband Paul of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Tom Shockley and his wife Susan of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Jim Shockley and his wife Mary of Crocker, Mo.; and 12 nieces and nephews. Visitation and celebration of life will be at the Oak Chapel Church near New Bloomfield, Mo. beginning at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010.
