Dorothy Lowrey

Dorothy Adele Lowrey, 91, of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, surrounded by family. Dorothy was born April 10, 1918 in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Fred and Ida Lunte. She was married June 14, 1936 in Steele, to Joseph Burel Lowrey, who preceded her in death on December 3, 1964. Dorothy graduated from Southeast Missouri State College in 1952, with a degree in elementary education. After moving to Columbia, she taught various grade levels at West Boulevard, Parkade and Russell Elementary schools. She retired from Columbia Public Schools after 29 years of dedicated service to her students. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her three children, Richard Lowrey and Ann Neff of Houston, Texas, Georgia Humphreys and husband Max of Ashland, Phyllis Masters and husband Sam of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Stephen Humphreys, Jordan Humphreys and wife Jennifer, Susanne Humphreys, Molly Crocker, Jennifer Rash and husband Randy, Jacqueline Lowrey, Stacy McCrary and husband Michael, Chad Masters and wife Joan; 11 great- grandchildren, Cory and Bastian Crocker, Landon Maasen, Zachary and Amber Humphreys, Jason and Jacob Shott, Jacqueline Rash, Harrison and Sam McCrary, Jack Masters; several nieces and nephews, and good friend, Linda Lowrey. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Naunheim and Edna Lunte. A private family service is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia Public Schools Employee Organization Scholarship Fund, 1818 West Worley, Columbia, MO 65203, Attn: Laura Sandstedt; or a charity of choice.
