Mary Ethel Verdot, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Adams Street Place. She was born October 12, 1919, in Chamois, a daughter of the late William M. and Hattie M. Yates Branson. Mary was united in marriage in 1959, to Ira Verdot Jr., who preceded her in death. She was employed at the St. Joseph's Home for the Aged as a Certified Nurses Aide until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by her one daughter, Melody Fortson (Gary) of Jefferson City; one stepson, Harold Verdot (Beverly) of Jefferson City; one brother, Donald Branson (Louise) of Holts Summit; two sisters, Alma Jean Christian (Mardell) of Jefferson City and Patsy J. Eckelkemp (Charles) of Jefferson City; two grandchildren, Dustin Joseph Fortson of Jefferson City and Crystal Wallenmeyer of Jefferson City; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Cleda Crockett, Helen Eager and Mildred Baker; and four brothers, Orville Branson, Herbie Branson, Harry Branson and William Branson Jr. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. tonight at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Rev. Charles "Dusty" Kline officiating. Interment will follow at the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Adams Street Place Entertainment Fund.
