Francis Edward "Frank" Ovaitt, 92, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born on December 23, 1917, in Yale, Mich., the son of the late Clarence Edward and Mary Rosella "Rose" Conlen Ovaitt. He was united in marriage on June 24, 1944, in Jefferson City, to Mildred Clara Vogel who resides at the home. Frank was a Staff Sergeant with the United States Army during World War II in Germany and Japan. In Germany, Frank served in the Division of Supply and Transportation. In October of 1945, he transferred to Japan and was stationed at a camp about 40 miles north of Tokyo. Frank was the owner and insurance agent with Ovaitt Insurance Agency until 1971. He then worked for the Missouri Division of Insurance from 1971-1988. He also worked part-time for Inglish & Monaco from 1988-1993. Frank was a piano player and leader of the Frank Ovaitt Dance Band for many years. He was the secretary and treasurer of the local Musicians Union Local 217 from 1972-1982. Frank was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and a past member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Legion of Mary Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus Helias Council 1054, St. Peter Parish Choir, American Legion, and Eagles Club. Other survivors include: eight children, Ruth Ovaitt, Jefferson City; Sharon Ovaitt, Jefferson City; Frank (Jackie) Ovaitt, McLean, Va.; Larry Ovaitt, Midvale, Utah; Paul (Denise) Ovaitt, Augusta, Mo.; Douglas Ovaitt, Fairfield, Iowa; Mark Ovaitt, Chesterfield, Mo.; Dan (Vonda) Ovaitt, Weston, Mo.; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Ovaitt; an infant sister, and a granddaughter, Heather Joye Ovaitt. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Benjamin E. Nwosu officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Vogelweid Learning Center, 216 Broadway St., Jefferson City, MO 65101, or to the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 2305 W.
