Geneva Clarice Thompson, 81, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center. Geneva was born on May 24, 1928 in Byron, a daughter of the late Clarence and Hattie (Francis) Johnson. She was married to Russell "Tommy" Thompson on November 28, 1946, who preceded her in death on February 23, 1993. She attended school at Garfield and graduated from Belle High School in 1946. She spent most of her adulthood in Jefferson City. She worked most of her life as a switchboard operator and receptionist for companies such as John Deere, Fabick, Memorial Hospital and Chesebrough-Ponds, Inc. She was raised as a Methodist. Geneva was a kind-hearted and lovely woman and will be greatly missed. She is survived by a daughter: Sandra (Dick) DeFreece of Reeds Spring; one sister: Jewell Deppe of Belle; long time friend and companion: J.B. Jackson of Jefferson City; two grandchildren: Jeff (Shelley) Claypool and Nichole (Bob) Emery; one great-granddaughter: Kylie Claypool; nieces and nephews; and extended family of J.B. Jackson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her twin brother: Gene Johnson. Funeral services were held on May 21, under the direction of Sassman's Funeral Services. She was buried in Francis Cemetery near Belle.
