Miss Dorothy J. Thornberry, age 91 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, July 26, 2010, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Dorothy was born June 16, 1919, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Thomas E. and Lillie H. Pennington Thornberry. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Dorothy attended Jefferson City Public Schools. She was employed with the Oberman Manufacturing Company for several years and later with Capital Auto Parts for many years until her retirement. She was a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church and the Jefferson City Women's Bowling Assn. In her younger years, Dorothy played softball for the Bob Burks team and later Coca-Cola. She was an active bowler for many years and was an avid cross-stitcher. Survivors include: her sister, Margaret Klug of Jefferson City, Mo., and Margaret's daughters, Sandra Spencer of Springdale, Ark., and Cindy Young of Jefferson City, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one sister. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Mike Rapp officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
