Sister Mary (Alice) Martin

Sister Mary of the Blessed Trinity, O.C.D. Alice Bernadette Martin, 76, of Jefferson City, passed from this life to Eternity on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born December 9, 1933, in Rochester, New York, a daughter of the late George and Sadie (Klein) Martin. She was baptized December 17, 1933, in Rochester, New York. Her First Communion was on May 25, 1941, at the St. John the Evangelist Church where her Confirmation was also held. She was superintendent of the Catholic Schools Office in Rochester from October 1951 to October 1952. She entered Carmel on January 7, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, and received the Holy Habit of Carmel on July 16, 1953. Her First Profession of Vows was on July 20, 1954, and she made her Solemn Profession on July 20, 1957. Sister Mary was supervisor of the altar bread department at the Carmelite Monastery and was the Carmelite photographer. She enjoyed working in the beautiful gardens of the monastery and loved music, especially playing her accordion. She was a devoted community member for her beloved Sisters and Mother and was always very grateful for any service done, whether by our Reverend Mother, one of her Sisters, or one of our many devoted friends who assisted her. May her soul rest in peace. She is survived by one brother: Robert Martin of Rochester, New York; two nieces: Terri Martin and Ann Thompson (husband Brian) and their children; and one nephew: David Martin. She was preceded in death by one sister: Laverna Gallagher. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Carmelite Monastery in Jefferson City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Carmelite Monastery in Jefferson City with The Most Reverend John Raymond Gaydos, D.D. as Celebrant. Interment will be held in the Carmelite Monastery Garden Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Carmelite Monastery.
