Janice Bakewell

Mrs. Janice M. Bakewell, age 55 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, Mo., after a three year struggle with breast cancer. She was born July 23, 1954 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of John and Anna Belle Ramsey Breitenstein. She had been married to John Randolph Bakewell, who resides in Jefferson City. Janice was employed by the Missouri Dept. of Health and Senior Services for 31 years, primarily in the areas of birth defects surveillance and maternal and child health statistics. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Jefferson City and found great love within the Grace Church family. She was also extremely grateful for the love and support of her DHSS coworkers. The love and support of family members and so many friends within and without Jefferson City was deeply important to her. Survivors: she was the proud mother of two wonderful children, Laura Caroline Bakewell, a senior at Emory University, Atlanta, Ga., and Johnny Morgan Bakewell, a sophomore at Jefferson City High School; her mother, Anna Belle Breitenstein of St. Charles, Mo.; three sisters, Annette Fehrenbach and her husband Peter of Seattle, Wash. and their daughters, Julia and Annie, Colleen Breitenstein of Charlotte, N.C., and Laurie Breitenstein of Chicago, Ill. and her sons, Jack and Joe. She is also survived by an aunt, Edna Riehl of Kansas City, Mo., and an uncle, James Ramsey and his wife Loretta of St. Louis, Mo. Other survivors include Thomas and Julie Bakewell of St. Louis and their children, Catherine and Myles, and Randy's aunt, Nancy Ryan Macklin. She was preceded in death by her father, John Breitenstein in 2003. Visitation will be at Grace Episcopal Church from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Grace Episcopal Church. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Smile Train organization, which repairs oral-facial clefts throughout the world.
