Brooks Burkhart

Brooks Lee Burkhart, 89, of Kliever, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born June 20, 1921, near Barnett, the daughter of John and Virginia (McGinnis) Gunn, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married to Joseph T. Burkhart in 1942, who preceded her in death in November of 1988. She worked 30 plus years for Stride Rite Shoe Co. in Tipton where she retired as a supervisor in 1982. Brooks enjoyed quilting and gardening. Survivors include: one son, Ray Burkhart of Clarksburg; friend Mary Ellen Burks of Bentonville, Ark.; three grandsons, Mike Burkhart and friend Lynn Smith of Centralia, Eric Burkhart and wife Robin of Eugene, and Gerald Burkhart and wife Dixie of Kansas City; one brother, Wade Gunn of Peoria, Ill.; three great- grandchildren; three step- great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Joan Burkhart Adams; one son-in law, Doyle Adams; two grandsons, Tony and Bryan Adams; four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. Officiating will be Pastor Peter Lange. Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at High Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak St., California, MO 65018.
