Mrs. Ruby Gwendolyn Dabbs, age 81 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at her home where her husband had lovingly cared for her for many years. Gwen was born May 15, 1928, in Ritchey, Mo., the daughter of Orwin and Ruby Callaway Miller. She was married at her parents' home on December 16, 1950, near Ritchey, Mo., to W. Eugene Dabbs, who survives at the home. A resident of the Jefferson City area for the past 49 years, Gwen graduated from Diamond High School, Diamond, Mo. and attended Missouri State University at Springfield, Mo. She was employed at the Neosho Courthouse in Neosho, Mo. for several years. In Jefferson City, she was employed with the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts for 17 years until her retirement in 1987. Gwen was a member of the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ. She loved being with her family, growing and caring for her flowers, and her canaries. Survivors include: her husband of 59 years, W. Eugene Dabbs; four daughters, Connie Masters and her husband Neal of Henderson, Nev., Charlene Dean and her husband Rick of Fontana, Calif., Nancy Steele and her husband Randy of Kingston, Tenn., and Joan Hoehn and her husband T. Grant of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sisters, Malcodene Hilton and her husband Bob of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Carolyn Clark and her husband Tom of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Nathan Masters and his wife Yasuko, Andrew Masters and his wife Melanie, Kendra Masters, Jonathan Dean, Nicholas Dean, Jeanna Brooksbank and her husband Richard, William Steele and his wife Laura, Travis Steele, J. Grant Hoehn, and Malissa Hoehn; and two great- grandchildren, Athena Masters and Sana Masters. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2010, at the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ with Brent Newton officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at the Van Buren Cemetery, Wentworth, Mo. on Tuesday. Visitation will be at the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. Monday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ or Fair Haven Children's Home.
