Fred Zehendner

Mr. Fred L. Zehendner, age 85 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, January 18, 2010, at the Capital Region Medical Center after an automobile accident. Fred was born October 23, 1924 in Cole County, Mo., the son of Andy and Anna Ott Zehendner. He was married March 30, 1981, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Jo Ann Ernst, who preceded him in death on July 20, 2002. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Fred attended Jefferson City High School. A lifelong farmer, Fred was employed as a driver from Central Hatchery and T.D.C. Trucking Company. He also drove for First Student and was well known for transporting athletic teams to sporting events. Fred was a member of the Missouri River Valley Steam Engine Assn. and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2693. Survivors include: two step- sons, Jay Stevenson of Topeka, Kan. and Don Stevenson of Allen, Texas; two step- daughters, Dana Stevenson Abouelnasr of Atlanta, Ga. and Dee Ann Stevenson Spiker of Green Valley, Ariz.; seven step- grandchildren, two step-great- grandchilren, and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jo Ann; four sisters, Agnes Feind, Edna Stubinger, Clara Michael, and Helen "Holly" Hartwig; and two brother, Ralph Zehendner and Alfred Zehendner. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2010 in the Freeman Chapel. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. Friday.
