Lowell D. Fischer, 69, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1940, in Cole County, Mo., a son of the late Edmund and Celesta Fischer. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and was a graduate of Jefferson City High School. He went on to attend St. John's College in Windfield, Kan. On April 11, 1987, he was united in marriage to Delores D. Horak, who survives at their home. Lowell was a salesman for Curtis/Barnes Distribution for over 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Lowell was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was School Board President, was on the Board of Elders, Chairman of the Building Committee, and President of the Congregation. He was also a member of the Jefferson City Host Lions Club, where he served as President from 1978 - 1979, District Governor from 1990 - 1991, and received the Melvin Jones Award for his dedicated service to the Lions Club. He was also a member of the American Legion. Lowell was an avid Missouri Tiger, Jefferson City Jay, and St. Louis Cardinal's fan. He also enjoyed tractor pulling and was an organizer and barbecued for the Lutheran Missouri District Principals Barbecue for many years. Lowell is also survived by three children: Kelli Smith (husband Shawn) of Kansas City, Mo., Kent Fischer (wife Genee) of Tipton, Mo., and Kyle Fischer (fiancée Jamie Heinrich) of Tebbetts, Mo.; four step-children: Jay Soell (wife Kim) of Shawnee, Kan., Vicky Soell of Jefferson City, Mo., Paul Nesmith of Lohman, Mo., and Lori Bridges (husband Darren) of Jefferson City, Mo.; eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn Smith, Alex Smith, Blake Fischer, Braden Fischer, Andrew Roark, Stone Nesmith, Elias Soell and Olivia Soell; one brother: Leland Fischer (wife Carol) of Jefferson City, MO; one sister: Loriel Dulle (husband Sid) of Jefferson City, Mo.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Edmund and Celesta Fischer; one nephew: Lance Kelsey; and one great-niece: Hailey Heck. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 11, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Russ Bowder officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, the Lions Eye Bank, or the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
