Mildred Lewis, 89, of Jefferson City, died Monday, December 28, 2009, at Jefferson City Manor Care Center. She was born May 25, 1920, in Guthrie, Mo., the daughter of the late Burton and Bessie Vaughn Nevins. She was married on June 8, 1940, to Manuel H. Lewis who preceded her in death on January 14, 2000. She also had one son, Manuel Taylor Lewis who preceded her in death. She was a lifelong member of Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Guthrie, Mo. She leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Beatrice Nevins Jones of Fulton, Mo.; two sons, Marvin Lewis of Jefferson City, Mo., and Maurice Lewis of Cedar City, Mo.; two granddaughters, Ramona (Calvin) Barnett of Jefferson City, Mo., and Lindsey Lewis of Highland, Calif., and three great-grandchildren, Jeshua Baynham, Lyric Barnett and Calvin Barnett Jr., all of Jefferson City, Mo., and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Guthrie, Mo., with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 12-2 Thursday at the church. Arrangements were under the direction of H.T. May & Son Funeral Homes, Columbia.
