Harley "Gene" Hartwick, 67, Eldon, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009, in Eldon. He was born September 23, 1942, in Santa Monica, Calif., the son of Harley Clay Hartwick and Grace Marie (Ward) Hartwick. He was married April 25, 1987, in Reno, Nev., to Fay (Carver) Hartwick, Gene served in the United States Army, serving in the 11th Armored Calvary and also served in Vietnam. Survivors include: his wife, Fay Hartwick of the home; three sons, David Gene Hartwick, Eldon, Mo., Joe Hartwick, Eldon, Mo., and Danny Bottoms, Defiance, Mo.; one daughter, Dana Whaley, Eldon, Mo.; six grandchildren; one brother, John Hartwick, Creighton, Mo.; and one sister, Donna Ball, Wellsville, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren. Visitation will be 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the funeral home with Rev. Daniel Popovich officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Eldon VFW Post #2442 of Eldon, Mo. and will be held at Phillips Funeral Home following the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans or the 11th Armored Calvary's Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia Scholarship.
