Louise Burns

Louise M. Burns, 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri, died Monday, February 22, 2010, at her daughter's home in Paducah, Kentucky. Louise was born April 21, 1920, in Humbolt, Tennessee, the daughter of Hosie and Della Lyons Massey, both deceased. She was a graduate of Sumner High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Upon graduation she married Milton Willis and to the union two daughters were born. In 1969, Louise was united in marriage to George Burns, who preceded her in death on January 21, 1995. Louise was a beautician who owned and operated two beauty shops for over 30 years. She also worked for the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology for approximately 25 years until her retirement. She was the oldest member of Log Providence Baptist Church, where she served as Chairperson and Pastor's Aid for over 25 years under the leadership of three Pastors. Louise also served as Deaconess, Ira Huggard Mission, Church Secretary and Church Clerk. She was a member of the Jefferson City Community Center Association, NAACP, and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Survivors include two daughters: Louise Samuels of Detroit, Michigan, and Janet and husband Rev. Joe Flagg of Paducah, Kentucky; one stepson, George Burns and wife Barbara; one sister, Alma Price and husband Ray; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Aline Caldwell; brother, Samuel Massey; and step-brother, Lee Andrew Covington. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the Log Providence Baptist Church near Columbia, Missouri with Rev. David Ballenger officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens, Jefferson City. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors.
